| Patrol Canine Handlers Course |
If you have experience, or are interested in the field of security and would like to take the next step and become a professional K-9 patrol handler or gain invaluable K-9 knowledge and hands on experience, this course is for you!
Duration: 3 Weeks - 90 Hours
Cost:
- Obedience Plus provides a dog for the handler to use for the duration of the course - $3,600.00
Course Duration: This 90 Hour, 3 Week course includes both classroom theory, and hands-on practical work with practical exams. You will be working under 30 year Master Trainer Werner Hader and his assistant trainers and certified handlers.
Requirements: To become a Patrol K9 Handler the student must have shown an aptitude for canine handling. You must be able to understand dog behavior and not be an aggressive dog handler.
Experience in the Security Industry is an asset but not mandatory.
Experience working or handling dogs is also an asset but not mandatory. Students must be physically fit and able to walk up to 5 hours day.

Duration: This is an intensive four-week program, that includes both hands-on and class room theory. Upon completion of this program, the succesful applicant will possess the knowledge and skills required to work the field of K-9 detection.
Cost:
- Obedience Plus provides a dog for the handler to use for the duration of the course - $4,500.00
Course Description: This course includes both classroom theory and hands-on practical work with both written classroom and practical exams. You will be working under 30 year Master Trainer Werner Hader and his assistant trainers and certified handlers.
Requirements: If you are interested in our K-9 Detection program, please e-mail us with information about yourself and we can forward a detailed information package. Please include whether or not you plan to attend with your own dog or will require a dog to work with during the program. A criminal record check is mandatory.
All applicants must have a minimum of 1 year working K-9 experience or have completed a Basic Trainers Course or our Patrol Canine Handlers Course.
The course content will include the following:
Utility Phase:
- Proper use of equipment and safety procedures
- Obedience and Agility
- Area Searches
- Building Searches
- Dog Psychology
- K-9 Emergency First Aid
- Documention, K-9 Training / Utilization Records
- Knowledge of either Narcotic or Explosive Components
Detection Phase:
- K-9 Psychology and Instinctive Drives
- Alert or Indication - "Reading Your Dog"
- Environmental Considerations - Weather, environment
- Correct storage and handling of narcotic or explosive training aids
- K-9 team safety in approaching explosive or narcotic search scene
- Documentation of training and the need of it
- Legal matters involving canine search and seizure
